Mr. Sasaki passes 6dan exam in Kyoto

Added on by J.K. SHISHIDO.

These sweets were sent to us as a 'thank you' from Mr. Shinji Sasaki. I met him while he was here in Hawaii, practicing kendo at Kenshikan Kendo Club while doing an English language program at the University of Hawaii. His story is an interesting one. After not doing kendo for a very long time (several decades?), he returned to kendo a few years ago and started training in preparation to take his 6-dan exam. Well, good news - he recently passed his 6-dan exam this past April in Kyoto, at 78 years old. Out of 868 examinees there were only 5 people over 70 that passed. It is an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations to Mr. Sasaki!
